The Bible mentioned this in James chapter one verse twenty-seven, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” Hence it refers to our treatment of others and the way we live as Christians.
The reason why many preachers label the term Religion as evil is because they are, in an instant, disqualified to be religious. Nothing wrong, really, to become religious. If you visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and be unspotted from any filthiness of the world, then you are a religious person, and you are not bad, but good.
Every time I hear a preacher say, “You don’t need religion… Blah, blah, blah…” I then quickly evaluate how he treated the unprivileged people and how he live his life as a christian, specially, as a minister. He may have skipped James 1:27 and is guilty of hypocrisy.
I know religion cannot save souls. But it’s a clean garment of righteousness that we should not set aside after we got saved.
If Religion means a belief system of true Christianity, then let us be religious.
